Lumbers is a third generation family business, a history which current owner Dominic Gomersall is very proud of, and is the only remaining family owned jeweller in the city - a history that we arekeen to preserve. The latest member of the family is Freddie Byron Gomersall, born on August 26th 2005, Freddie follows Dominic's marriage to Kim, a descendant of John Lumbers, the founding owner of Lumbers, from whom the business was purchased in the 1930s by Dominic's grandfather.

Payne & Son was founded in 1790 and after eight generations is still run by members of the same family. John Payne opened a silversmiths and jewellers in Wallingford in 1790, with other shops openingin Abingdon 1825, Banbury 1842 and Tunbridge Wells 1870, all run by various members of the Payne family. George Septimus Payne inherited the Abingdon shop in 1874, but 14 years later, he decided to move to Oxford.
I have been making jewellery for a number of years, I don't remember how I got started. I attended a wirework workshop in which I learnt a variety of techniques and from then I was hooked. I enjoyworking with a variety of materials from stitched projects with tiny seed beads to using an electric drill to create beautiful coils and twists with wire.
